A Facebook post circulating blends Integrated Information Theory (IIT) with an elegant geometric construct called the Dougherty Set. The post proposes the idea that consciousness may arise when wave patterns become sufficiently interconnected — measured by IIT’s symbol Φ (phi) — and that golden-ratio-based geometries might provide the structural “sweet spots” where awareness switches on.

In simplified terms, the post suggests:

Consciousness appears when information becomes tightly integrated.

This integration is quantified as Φ.

Certain geometric wave patterns — toroidal loops, nested spirals, phase conjugation, golden ratio alignments — may form the physical substrate that allows this deep integration to occur.

When these waves overlap or “kiss” at precise harmonic points, information becomes inseparable, Φ rises, and consciousness emerges.

It’s a synthesis of neuroscience, geometry, and art — proposing that awareness may be encoded in natural patterns.

But quietly embedded in this framing is an assumption that deserves examination:

That consciousness is produced by structure.

That geometry precedes awareness.

That sufficiently complex motion gives rise to Mind.

From a Walter Russell perspective — and from Rest Point Recovery — this is precisely where cause and effect become inverted.

Geometry Does Not Create Consciousness

Consciousness creates the illusion of geometry, and the senses .

Russell’s cosmology begins not with waves, ratios, or structures — but with Stillness.

With undivided Universal Mind.

All measurable things — spirals, toroids, interference patterns, golden ratios, nested fields — are expressions of motion. They are effects. They are light organizing itself outward from a centered, invisible Source.

Form does not generate awareness.

Awareness generates form.

So when IIT says:

“The more interconnected a system is, the more conscious it becomes,”

Russell would gently reverse this:

The more centered a system is in Mind, the more coherently motion expresses itself.

High Φ does not create consciousness.

High Φ reflects balanced interchange around a rest point.

What IIT is really measuring is not consciousness itself, but the degree to which motion has achieved harmonic equilibrium.

In Russellian terms, Φ is a symptom of balance.

Not the source of awareness.

Golden Ratio and the Myth of Sacred Geometry as Cause

The post also leans on the golden ratio as evidence of consciousness encoded in structure — implying that phi-based geometries may be the hidden mechanism behind awareness.

But here again, Russell offers a deeper clarification.

Golden ratio patterns appear where thought motion is unbalanced and seeking return to equilibrium.

They are not divine blueprints.

They are visible footprints of strain within polarized motion.

True equilibrium is at the still point, not within the spiral.

Geometry lives in the realm of effect.

Consciousness lives in the realm of cause.

When we mistake patterns for origin, we accidentally place God inside geometry instead of recognizing geometry as the effect cast by Mind. Effect is never Cause.

Recentration, Not Ascension

Modern spiritual language often speaks of “ascending to higher dimensions,” as though consciousness lives somewhere spatially above us, waiting to be reached through complexity, vibration, or structure.

Russell dismantles this idea completely.

There are no higher dimensions to climb into.

Dimension implies containment — and consciousness is not contained.

What actually happens is recentration.

A return to the still point within.

A collapse of projection of identity back into balanced awareness – and the desire to create with balance.

Consciousness is not accessed by building more elaborate structures.

It is realized by withdrawing attention from effects and returning to Cause.

This is the foundation of Rest Point Recovery.

Healing, clarity, creativity, and coherence arise not through stimulation or expansion, but through centering.

Through releasing reactive wave patterns and allowing the body-mind to express its natural equilibrium.
